‘I think my hands are numb’ I muttered to myself as I packed away my tent to head back to Townsville.
Camping this time around was quite cold. I’m forever grateful to my North Face sleeping bag rated to -7C. Yes I’m sure all of the Canadians and Americans reading this will laugh but that’s only because Australia has turned me into a bit of a wimp.
I did get photographic proof of the frost that my tent was blanketed in. After getting in and out of tent several times a small pile of what I will call ’snow’ formed at the base. I think this is the closest I’ll get to a white winter here so it will have to do.
This time around we had 108 people up at Hidden Valley all at once. We had 25 DTS students plus staff. It was an amazing time of bonding for all of us. Most of all it was a great chance for us to hang out with eachother outside of the ‘work/city’ setting that we often find ourselves in. Most of all though many of us were able to meet with God in an amazing way.
For many of the staff it was a ‘refreshing’ time for them just to hang out with God. For myself I didn’t find I really had any huge revelations, but after camping I found myself desiring to be close with God. Many times I think I need to preform a certain way or accomplish all these things so that God will love me and meet with me. It may sound foolish to many christians but I think many of us can find ourselves in this situation.
So I’m still kind of working through this and I feel like I’m re-leaning what it means to be close with God.

Sara and I (Nick) have been married since June 2007. We volunteer with an organization called YWAM (Youth With A Mission). YWAM has close to 1000 bases around the world. One of those bases is Reef to Outback in Townsville, Australia which is where we are located. Nick currently works in the communications department and Sara works with the music ministry. We believe that we will be in Australia for a few more years to continue volunteering. Neither of us receive a salary from RTO (Reef to Outback) or YWAM for what we do. We must raise all of our own support through church, friends, family, and anyone else who is genuinely interested in helping us (if you’d like to help us please visit our ‘Donate‘ section).

Hey Nick,
How’s life going? I hope everything is going great. I really like those pictures you took, very nice. And the “fear of man” video is really funny. Keep up the good work and we’ll see you soon.
