Launch with a Bowl of Mishaps
September 5th, 2005 by Nick VerwymerenLast Wednesday marked the launch for Stable on the Strand which meant the premiere of our promotional video which we’ve tirelessly been working on for the past few weeks. Of course with everything being last minute we found ourselves exporting the movie 30 minutes before the night started. Along with many other technical difficulties it made for an interesting night.
Our troubles started off when I printed 150 DVD labels with a pretty huge spelling error, and at 50 cents a label it wasn’t the cheapest of mistakes. Then after exporting the video (which takes about 1.5 hours) the video itself had errors and timing problems with the audio. We didn’t have time to do another export so we just had to go with it. Then after setting up all the video equipment for the night the DVD player just wouldn’t work. When we finally found one that worked, when it came time to play the video to the audience of 200 it wouldn’t play. John frantically pressed the play button over and over until miraculously after an awkward silence it started playing.
Although it was a night fraught with headaches, we pulled it off none the less and $12,000 was raised just on that night.
Please remember to pray for our communications department as there are many things that seem to hinder us in doing our work. Communications is a very busy place and all it takes is a minor glitch to bring productivity to a halt.
Now that I’m done with the Stable promo video it frees me up to work on some other things. Today I was able to go through some of the 1000′s of photos on our server and begin to catalogue them to make searching much easier. It looks like I’ll be working on another video soon though. RTO (Reef to Outback) is looking at making a video for the base so people can gain a better understanding of what we do here. There is also a film festival that will go on during Stable on the Strand an some of us are thinking of entering.
God has definately used this time to stretch and grow me in many areas. It’s not always the most comfortable thing but I guess that’s where God has called me, out of my comfort zone.
